Posting a photo of his injury on Facebook on Saturday, Glockler said he was bitten by a dog he patted outside a pub and it took over 100 stitches for his nose to be reattached.

He told his followers: “I was at the pub last night, petting a dog when it decided it did not like my face and took off half my nose. I've had over 100 stitches inside and out of the nose and it's been reattached.

“(My wife) Gina says between this and the scar on my scalp I should change my name to FrankenNigel. The good news is no problems for the upcoming shows - see you soon!”

Glockler suffered a brain aneurysm in 2014 and underwent multiple surgeries to save his life.

Having played triumphant shows in Glasgow, London, Portsmouth and Manchester in October, Saxon’s Thunderbolt Tour Part 3 will take in dates in Bath, Nottingham and Newcastle this coming November.

The excellent support at all three dates comes from the ‘Queen of Heavy Metal’, Doro, and the mighty Wayward Sons.
